I have been working with repetitive small marking as a part of a process which has developed during the last two years. Each mark has its own uniqueness, although they look the same; each is its own individual mark and individual moment in time.
I see these marks as marking time. As an experience of waiting, of being, and expressing an awareness of wanting to make a mark, a creative mark, but not wanting to begin with an idea, nor impose any direction or pre-thought.
Like entering a space and a relationship within a therapeutic setting, these marks are holding time, second by second. Establishing a presence and the idea of being held, giving the surface I am working on my full attention without ideas coming from my own history which may be external to the moment I am in.
